FAQs

What does a nutritional assessment involve?

A nutritional assessment begins with a discussion with one of our Accredited Practising Dietitians (APD). They will ask questions in order to complete a full assessment of your current habits, your goals, and any concerns you might have.

Working alongside our medical team, your dietitian will also explore relevant medical history and lifestyle factors, such as work routines, stress, sleep, and activity levels, as all of these can affect your eating habits and overall health.

Your dietitian will typically review results from tests ordered by our doctors as part of a multidisciplinary approach to get a clearer picture of your health.

From there, they will assess where you are currently and work with you to develop a personalised, practical nutrition plan designed to support your individual health goals.

Do I need a referral for a nutritional assessment?

No. Nutritional assessments at HealthScreen do not need a referral; they are offered as part of our program. When you meet with our dietitian, they may refer you for additional services, like blood tests, to help get a fuller picture of your nutritional health.

Do I need to prepare before my assessment?

To get the clearest picture of your health, and to ensure our dietitians are best placed to help you, you’ll be asked to complete a nutritional assessment form and keep a food diary prior to your appointment. (Specific instructions will be provided prior to your appointment.)

This helps people remember exactly what their diet currently is and self-identify any areas they would like reviewed with their dietitian.

Will food preferences and intolerances be discussed?

Absolutely. Your dietitian will ask about your food preferences, cultural or ethical choices, and any allergies or intolerances, and apply them to your plan. This is all part of creating a personalised and sustainable plan.

Will my medical history be reviewed?

Yes. Since health isn’t one-size-fits-all, your dietitian will review all relevant aspects of your medical history to make sure your care is personalised and grounded in your real-world context.

Will you consider my lifestyle and activity level?

Yes, your dietitian will look at the full context of your life, not only what you’re eating. This includes things like your work schedule, energy demands, movement and activity levels, sleep, stress, and caregiving responsibilities.

Are blood test results used as part of the assessment?

Our dietitians work closely alongside our medical team to provide a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to optimising your results. They will review results from your testing as part of your program.

Blood tests are great for identifying potential nutrient deficiencies or underlying factors that aren’t always visible through diet alone. You’ll receive a copy of these results, which your dietitian will use to inform your plan.

Can this assessment support weight management goals?

Whether your goals are to gain, maintain, or lose weight, we can work with you to develop a suitable, health-focused plan.

Can nutritional assessments help with energy, focus, or recovery?

Yes. One of the key things we will assess is if there are any factors from your diet, health history, or routine that may be affecting your energy levels, concentration, or recovery.
